Foundation for Orthodontic Research and Continuing Education
WHY RESIDENTS SHOULD USE F.O.R.C.E.
TO AID IN OBTAINING RELIABLE VALID DATA
All too often, residents utilize survey tools to conduct research to meet one of their requirements for certification. The response rate is, more often than not, dismal which then casts doubt on the validity and reliability of the results obtained. In addition, it is often difficult to get mailing lists of orthodontists to send the survey tool to, and there are sometimes costs associated with procuring a survey platform. FORCE addresses all of these issues by having its own cadre of practitioners who have been brought together into a practice based research network of orthodontists who have committed themselves to respond to the needs of orthodontic residents conducting survey based research. Whether you seek clinically based data, demographic information, practice management based input, you name it; the Fellows of the FORCE practice based research network are there to provide you with reliable data. The best part? It’s free, just for the asking.
HOW ELSE CAN FORCE HELP ME?
Many research projects require some type of financial outlay. Some examples are include lab/incubator rental, culturing costs, techs to read the slides, bench testing rental time, statistician fees, etc. FORCE is here to help the resident offset some of these costs merely by applying for research funding. No gimmicks, no long involved application process, just a simple 2 page questionnaire. We invite you to visit the website www.forceresearchnetwork.org to see if FORCE can help you. We believe that no resident should have to incur a greater student debt load if there is another viable alternative.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER POTENTIAL BENEFITS TO USING FORCE?
Because all Fellows receive a copy of any research that FORCE sponsored it is not uncommon to find that your project is a “pet interest” of one of the Fellows. It is not uncommon in that instance for the Fellow to contact the resident in order to see if the research is able to be continued on a greater scale or possibly the project gets reworked and submitted for publication. Both have happened in the past. Why not you?
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME IN THE LONG RUN?
This is your opportunity to become part of something bigger. By utilizing the resources of FORCE now, you give validity to the network while simultaneously reaping the benefits of having this type of resource at your disposal. Then after you graduate and are in practice for yourself, you can, if you wish, become a FELLOW and pay it forward to another resident coming up through the ranks. How great is that.
